2015 reading/writing resolutions

This year I read 116 books which is pretty awesome because my goal was to read a hundred only. In 2015, my goal is to read at least 50 books. The reason I put down the number of books I plan on reading is because next year will be a very busy year for me. I will be graduating from HS in June and starting college in the fall. A lot of studying to do. *sigh*  I also am planning on reading more classics and non-fiction, this will prepare me for college. I love fiction, that's all I want to read but if I want to study literature, I need to read a lot of classics.

Next year will also be a year of writing for me. In 2014, my goal was to read as  much as possible so in 2015, I can start writing stories with a better writing style. I'm pretty nervous but I believe I can do it.

Also, I'm participating in the POP SUGAR 2015 READING CHALLENGE!

Bout Of Books 12.0

I love Read-A-Thons!I'm so excited for the bout of books 12.0 because I have a ton of unread books that I can't wait to read! Even though I'll probably be busy at school, I'll still try to read as much as I can. I will post a TBR pile for the read-a-thon soon.  Feel free to sign up! (:

TOP 5 YA Contemporary reads of 2014

1. Since You've Been Gone by Morgan Matson

Book review: Since You've Been Gone
Great book about friendship, love and a girl who learns more about herself.

2. My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick
I didn't write a full review on this book but I have to say that I really loved the story . I read this after reading Anna And The French Kiss, even though I loved and praised Anna's story, I believe My Life Next Door is a tiny bit better.

3. To All The Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han

Book review: To All The Boys I've Loved Before
Even though the cliffhanger at the end killed me, this book is still in my favorite list.

4. Isla And The Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins

Book review: Isla and the happily ever after
Fantastic and very cute contemporary read. Some people didn't like it but I loved it, it was so cute.

5. Just One Day by Gayle Forman

I haven't written a review for this book. Gotta say this book was amazing. I felt like I traveled all around Europe and learned a lot about Shakespeare's plays. So, if you like travelling, Shakespeare and romance, this book is perfect for you.

Review: Hold On Tight (Sea Breeze #8) by Abbi Glines

Genre: NA/ Contemporary Romance
Publication date: June 3rd, 2014
Publisher: Simon Pulse
Read: December 2014
Pages: 288
Rating: 4/5

Summary:
Six years ago, Dewayne Falco's life changed. He lost someone he never expected to lose. Resigned to punish himself for something he felt he could have prevented, he goes through life without getting too close to anyone.

What he didn't expect was for the girl across the street to move back home and remind him of what they both lost: Dewayne's younger brother Dustin. However, when a miniature version of Dustin opens the door to greet him, Dewayne realizes he might not have lost everything after all.

Sienna Roy loved Dustin Falco most of her life. He was the boy next door, the high school basketball star and her best friend. But when his life was cut short, she realized he left a part of himself behind.

Now, she's back in Sea Breeze, thankful to have a home for her and Dustin's son, but not sure if she can ever forgive the people across the street who abandoned her when she needed them the most — The Falcos.

Betrayal, lies, and forbidden attraction might end Dewayne and Sienna's story before it's even begun.

My review:

I've been wanting to read this for such a longtime but I didn't have money to buy it at that time. These past few months were pretty damn stressful for me at school and work. When vacation started I pretty much read half of the unread books on my shelf. Then I received an itunes gift card for Christmas and used that to buy Hold On tight

Before I read this book, I read the sample a few weeks before and I regretted reading it because it just made me want to read the whole thing, but I couldn't because I didn't have money to buy it. Lesson learned. Never read the sample if you don't have money to buy the book. It drove me crazy.

Because you healed  me. When no one else could.

I really adored Micah, Sienna's son, so damn much. He was so cute and smart I just wanted to play with him all day. I like how he said somethings he wasn't supposed to say. It was adorable.

I was really looking forward in learning more about Dewayne because in the past few books, he was just a guy who liked to have fun, he was chill, funny and mysterious. But in this book, he was just different. Sure, there was some scenes where he sounded like the Dewayne we know but for the most part, he was just like the other guys. It wasn't a big problem though, I learned to ignore it and just continue on with the story. The thing I really liked about Dewayne is how he really loved his younger brother Dustin, it was really nice to read how he cared about him so much.

Sienna, at first I really liked her character but as the story progressed, she got a little annoying because it felt like she wanted everyone to like her right away and if they didn't she didn't want them in her life. Like girl, give them some time. Gee.

The story was really good. There was a lot of scenes that made me laugh. However, was it my favorite of the series? No. I felt like everything was a rush. It was happening too fast and I wished there was more. But again, I always want more when it comes to Abbi's books.

TOP 10+1 MOST ANTICIPATED BOOKS OF 2015

These books are in no particular order. I'm really looking forward on reading all of them next year.

Frostfire(Kanin Chronicles #1) by Amanda Hocking
Genre: Paranormal Romance/Fantasy/ YA
Publication date: January 6th, 2015
Publisher: St. Martin's Griffin
Pages: 336
Goodreads summary:
Bryn Aven is an outcast among the Kanin, the most powerful of the troll tribes.
Set apart by her heritage and her past, Bryn is a tracker who's determined to become a respected part of her world. She has just one goal: become a member of the elite King’s Guard to protect the royal family. But all her plans for the future are put on hold when Konstantin– a fallen hero she once loved – begins kidnapping changelings. Bryn is sent in to help stop him, but will she lose her heart in the process?
My thoughts:
I'm really excited about exploring the Trylle world again. The Trylle Trilogy (Switched,Torn,Ascend) made me the reader I am today and I loved that series so much. When I heard Mrs. Amanda was working on another series set in the Trylle World, it made my whole day. It's coming out next week and I can't wait!

I Was Here by Gayle Forman
Genre: Contemporary/ YA
Publication date: January 27th, 2015
Publisher: Viking Juvenile
Pages: 288
Goodreads summary:
Cody and Meg were inseparable.
Two peas in a pod.
Until . . . they weren’t anymore.

When her best friend Meg drinks a bottle of industrial-strength cleaner alone in a motel room, Cody is understandably shocked and devastated. She and Meg shared everything—so how was there no warning? But when Cody travels to Meg’s college town to pack up the belongings left behind, she discovers that there’s a lot that Meg never told her. About her old roommates, the sort of people Cody never would have met in her dead-end small town in Washington. About Ben McAllister, the boy with a guitar and a sneer, who broke Meg’s heart. And about an encrypted computer file that Cody can’t open—until she does, and suddenly everything Cody thought she knew about her best friend’s death gets thrown into question.

I Was Here is Gayle Forman at her finest, a taut, emotional, and ultimately redemptive story about redefining the meaning of family and finding a way to move forward even in the face of unspeakable loss.

My thoughts:
I thought this was a companion novel to the If I Stay duology but I found out it wasn't. It's a new story, a new book written by Gayle Forman and I can't wait to read it. The cover is absolutely beautiful and the summary is very intriguing. I wasn't a big fan of the If I stay duology but I really loved Just One Day, Just One Year and Just One Night

P.S. I Still Love You (To All The Boys I've Loved Before #2) by Jenny Han
Genre: Contemporary Romance/ YA
Publication date: June 2nd, 2015
Publisher: Simon & Schuster Books For Young Readers
Pages: 288
Goodreads summary:
Lara Jean didn’t expect to really fall for Peter.
She and Peter were just pretending. Except suddenly they weren’t. Now Lara Jean is more confused than ever.
When another boy from her past returns to her life, Lara Jean’s feelings for him return too. Can a girl be in love with two boys at once?
In this charming and heartfelt sequel to the New York Times bestseller To All the Boys I've Loved Before, we see first love through the eyes of the unforgettable Lara Jean. Love is never easy, but maybe that’s part of makes it so amazing.

My thoughts:
I am so GLAD this book is coming out because the cliffhanger at the end of To All The Boys I've Loved Before sucked! I was literally pissed off. I also thought it was coming out in April, now it's expected two months later. Sigh, anyways, I'm just glad Ms. Jenny Han wrote this book.

The Heir (The Selection #4) by Kiera Cass
Publication date: May 5th, 2015
Publisher: Harperteen
Pages: 343
Goodreads summary:
Twenty years ago, America Singer entered the Selection and won Prince Maxon’s heart. Now the time has come for Princess Eadlyn to hold a Selection of her own. Eadlyn doesn’t expect her Selection to be anything like her parents’ fairy-tale love story. But as the competition begins, she may discover that finding her own happily ever after isn’t as impossible as she always thought.

My thoughts:
I literally screamed when I heard Mrs. Kiera was going to write 3 more books in the Selection series. The fact that the protagonist is the daughter of Maxon and America is PERFECT. This is going to be like the Bachelorette but even better! And it's coming out the day after my birthday! YAY!

Invaded (Alienated #2) by Melissa Landers
Publication date: February 3rd, 2015
Publisher: Disney-Hyperion
Pages: 368
Goodreads summary:
The romantic sequel to Alienated takes long-distance relationships to a new level as Cara and Aelyx long for each other from opposite ends of the universe...until a threat to both their worlds reunites them.

Cara always knew life on planet L’eihr would be an adjustment. With Aelyx, her L’eihr boyfriend, back on Earth, working to mend the broken alliance between their two planets, Cara is left to fend for herself at a new school, surrounded by hostile alien clones. Even the weird dorm pet hates her.

Things look up when Cara is appointed as human representative to a panel preparing for a human colony on L’eihr. A society melding their two cultures is a place where Cara and Aelyx could one day make a life together. But with L’eihr leaders balking at granting even the most basic freedoms, Cara begins to wonder if she could ever be happy on this planet, even with Aelyx by her side.

Meanwhile, on Earth, Aelyx, finds himself thrown into a full-scale PR campaign to improve human-L’eihr relations. Humans don’t know that their very survival depends on this alliance: only Aelyx’s people have the technology to fix the deadly contamination in the global water supply that human governments are hiding. Yet despite their upper hand, the leaders of his world suddenly seem desperate to get humans on their side, and hardly bat an eye at extremists’ multiple attempts on Aelyx’s life.

The Way clearly needs humans’ help . . . but with what? And what will they ask for in return?

My thoughts:
I can't wait for this book too. I loved Alienated and I considered it as one of the best books I read this year. I can't wait to hear more about Aelyx and Cara's love story. Also, if you didn't know it yet, Melissa Landers wrote a novella about Cara and Aelyx that is free everywhere it's called "Until Midnight", so if you haven't already, go check it out.

The Queen & The Courtesan (The Ring & The Crown #2) by Melissa De La Cruz

Publisher: Disney-Hyperion
Pages: 384
Goodreads summary:

Meanwhile, the empire's enemies gather, with Iron Knights sparking rebellion in the countryside and Jeanne of Arrk's dark witches rumored to have risen from the dead.

On the eve of Marie-Victoria's coronation, when the legendary island of magic is breached, and Avalon in danger, Aelwyn Myrddyn, the empire's head mage, must make a choice between her heart and her home. But as the truth behind Aelwyn's past deeds come to light, the young queen and her mage face their greatest obstacle yet. Each other.

Sacrifice is not just a ritual. Because this is still the Court of St. James where no one can be trusted. And the games continue…

My thoughts:
I really enjoyed reading The Ring & The Crown which was a little surprising because I never thought I'd like it. The story was very interesting and I really liked Wolfgang but I don't think him and Marie-Victoria are meant to be together so I can't wait for the sequel to find out what's going to happen next.

When I'm Gone (Rosemary Beach #11) by Abbi Glines
Publication date: April 7th, 2015
Publisher: Simon & Schuster
Pages: 272
Goodreads summary:
From #1 New York Times bestselling author Abbi Glines comes the next new adult novel in the Rosemary Beach series, in which we meet Mase, a Texas heartthrob first introduced in Take a Chance who comes to Rosemary Beach to stir things up.

I had an urge to fix all her problems. Which was stupid. She was doing fine without me. But something about those big eyes…

Mase Colt-Manning has always preferred his humble life as a Texas rancher to his birthright as the son of a legendary rock star. In fact, he rarely visits his father’s rarefied world in Rosemary Beach, especially if it means bunking at his vile half-sister Nan’s house—until one visit leads to a chance encounter with a young, gorgeous house maid who awakens him with her off-key but spirited imitation of a country music star…

Reese Ellis finally has her freedom. After escaping a lifetime of abuse from her parents and classmates for an undiagnosed learning disorder, she seizes the opportunity to be a house maid to some of the richest families in Rosemary Beach. But her job is in jeopardy when she causes an accident at the home of her most important client, Nan Dillon. When a hot, half-naked stranger with a cowboy’s swagger comes to her rescue, she’s intrigued—then afraid once he shows his own interest. Reese has never met a trustworthy man in her life. Will Mase be any different?

My thoughts:
Honestly, I'm always looking forward to read any books from Abbi Glines so it's no surprise this book along with the sequel and the Field Party are on this list.

While Reese is visiting her new family in Chicago, Mase spends time with his “cousin,” Aida, who has worshipped him since childhood. Though they’re unrelated by blood, Mase and Aida have been raised to think of each other as family. My thoughts:
I loved Lily Paradis' book Ignite and she said this book is way different from it which makes it more intriguing. The look of the cover and the summary, this novel sounds really dark and I just can't wait to read something different. Besides, my goal in 2015 is to read different books from different genres. Although this book is still NA, I still consider it different from the books I mostly read.

Review: Since You've Been Gone by Morgan Matson

Genre: Contemporary/YA
Publication date: May 2014
Publisher: Simon & Schuster
Read: December 2014
Pages: 449
Rating: 5/5

Summary:
The Pre-Sloane Emily didn't go to parties, she barely talked to guys, she didn't do anything crazy. Enter Sloane, social tornado and the best kind of best friend—the one who yanks you out of your shell.

But right before what should have been an epic summer, Sloane just… disappears. No note. No calls. No texts. No Sloane. There’s just a random to-do list. On it, thirteen Sloane-selected-definitely-bizarre-tasks that Emily would never try… unless they could lead back to her best friend.

Apple Picking at Night? Okay, easy enough.

Dance until Dawn? Sure. Why not?

Kiss a Stranger? Wait… what?

Getting through Sloane’s list would mean a lot of firsts. But Emily has this whole unexpected summer ahead of her, and the help of Frank Porter (totally unexpected) to check things off. Who knows what she’ll find?

Go Skinny Dipping? Um…

My review:
I heard so many great things about this book and I absolutely love the hardcover. I read Amy & Roger's Epic Detour by Morgan Matson before and it was amazing, I gave it a 5/5 stars. Since You've Been Gone though, was over the top. If I could give a  7/5 stars, I would. It was so good! First of all, I want to talk about the characters because I loved them all. I can really see myself as Emily because we were pretty much alike. I love to run, I wasn't part of the cross-country team because we don't have that at our school, but we have a running club and I was part of it. I'm also very shy and awkward, sometimes I couldn't talk properly with people, it's embarrassing. Frank, even though it was mentioned he had a girlfriend, for some reason the moment he appeared in a scene, I knew he was going to end up with Emily. I just knew and you just had to keep reading until the end to find out where their friendship was going. Dawn was such a good friend. I didn't expect her to be around much but I loved that she was there for Emily. Collins was very funny and I liked how he teased Emily sometimes. Emily's brother was an absolute cutie and his relationship with his older sister reminds me a little bit of mines with my younger brothers. Gideon, even though we haven't seen him much, I was glad he was mentioned in the story. I thought he was a bad boyfriend at first but it turned out, he was actually a pretty good guy but I'm still figuring out why it hadn't work between him and Emily. Sloane, I loved her list and we haven't seen her much either but I learned to love her character. I really felt like she truly loved Emily. I had a best friend before and I always doubted that she cared about me like I cared about her. Distance killed our being best friends and the fact that she didn't tell me her problems when I always did, it's too bad we didn't figure things out but we remained good friends, just not like before. This book wasn't only about romance but mostly about friendship and if you haven't read it yet, I highly highly recommend it. (=

About the author:
Morgan Matson grew up in New York City and Greenwich, Connecticut. She attended Occidental College in Los Angeles but halfway though a theater degree, she started working in the children's department of Vroman's Bookstore and fell in love with YA literature.

Following college graduation (and the proud bearer of an incredibly useful theater/English degree) she moved back East to attend the New School, where she received her M.F.A in Writing for Children.
Amy & Roger's Epic Detour, inspired by Morgan's three cross-country road trips, was published in May 2010. It was named an ALA Top Ten Best Book, a PW "Flying Start" book, and was shortlisted for the Waterstone's Book Prize. It has since been published in five different languages and six different countries.

In the meantime, Morgan moved back to California, went back to school again and in 2011 received an M.F.A. in Screenwriting from the University of Southern California.

Her second book, Second Chance Summer, was published in May 2012 and draws largely on her experiences spending summers growing up in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania.

Morgan currently lives in Los Angeles, though she loves to travel and does it whenever she can.

Excerpt #1:
Right now it’s not enough to have just a little bit of Hayden.
I want all of him.
I want to be engulfed by him.
I want him to set me on fire and burn me until I’m nothing but ashes.
And then I want him to set a flame to those ashes, because he’s the only one who can.

Excerpt #2:

Mini-Reviews:
"A read that will keep you on your toes until the very end. Genius!"
Makayla (The Book Life)

"This is a twisted tale... that you can relate to."
Bryce (Novels to Song)

“Beautifully twisted...A novel that shocks and surprises, and is not your typical love story. A gripping read filled with complex characters, dark humor and lyrical writing that leaves you wanting more! Paradis produced a story that carried a lot of emotion that dealt with love, relationships, and the darkness that surrounds death and the mark it leaves on those who have escaped it.”
Ashley F. (Falling Down the Book Hole)

"The story was lined with black and drowned in glitter... Volition is one of those books that makes you reflect on life's past, present, and future."
Abbey (Books a la Mode)

"I could not put this beautiful and dark tale of Tate McKenna down! Be with her as she discovers the impact that free will, fate and the act of letting go can have on a person!”
Jaclyn (Living in a World of Book Quotes)

My comments: The cover is beautiful and the story sounds really intriguing and so dark. I can't wait to read it. FEBRUARY COME FASTER!

Review: You Were Mine by Abbi Glines

Genre: New Adult Romance
Publication date: December 2014
Publisher: Atria Books
Read: November 2014 (I got it early)
Pages: 256
Rating: 5/5

Summary:
From #1 "New York Times "bestselling author Abbi Glines comes a brand-new Rosemary Beach novel about Tripp Newark and his hidden romantic past with Bethy Lowry.

In the eyes of the wealthy playboys who frequent Kerrington Country Club in Rosemary Beach, Tripp Newark is a hero. Under pressure from his parents to become a lawyer and lead a conservative, upper-class life, Tripp disappeared from town five years ago to travel the world, forfeiting the opportunity to inherit millions. Yet few know what he was really running from...

Bethy Lowry was unraveling long before her boyfriend drowned in a riptide trying to save her after she'd had one too many drinks--again. A trailer park kid working as a cart girl among the wealthy patrons of Kerrington Country Club, Bethy has always been impressionable. But five years ago, before she earned her reputation as a hard-drinking, easy girl, she had spent a single summer with Tripp Newark that changed her life forever...

My review:

Finally read this book I've been waiting since I finished Simple Perfection! This novel was so good' I loved Tripp so damn much, not that I didn't like him in the Perfection Duology but I got to really know more about him in You Were Mine and I just really fell in love with his character. His speech on Woods and Della's wedding was priceless. It was one of my favorite scenes in the book. He was hilarious!

"I'd become someone completely different from the girl he'd left behind."
I loved seeing how Bethy's character changed during this whole series. From Fallen Too Far to You Were Mine, she completely changed. When I first 'met' her, I thought she was a slut and when she started dating Jace for real, I thought maybe Jace changed her or her love for him changed her but I was wrong. She had a past with Jace's cousin Tripp and that completely surprised me. I cried like a baby when Jace died and I thought Abbi was going to write a book about Bethy and Jace but no. Jace left and that sucked because I really really liked his character. However, it doesn't remove the fact that I love Tripp.

I think  that twist was a good one because it didn't really make readers don't want to read the next book, it made them want to read more and know what happened to both Tripp and Bethy when they were younger. Their story was really amazing and inspiring. It showed the readers that when two people are meant to be together, fate will always find a way to bring them back together again. It also showed us that it isn't always bad to give love a second chance. First loves are hard to forget especially on Bethy and Tripp's experience and I was so glad they ended up together again because even if their faces only exist in my head, I know what a cute and perfect couple they are.

Again, I applaud Abbi Glines for writing another impeccable romance book I gave it five out of five stars again. I read it in a day and it doesn't surprise me anymore. When I read an Abbi Glines book I know I'm going to live it and that I wouldn't regret buying or reading her books. They are all amazing and they are all worth reading. I highly highly recommend reading one of her books, you won't regret it!
